Redeemer West Side

Dear Friend,

Thank you for your interest in learning more about Redeemer's West Side congregation. I am both humbled and thankful to serve our church as one of Redeemer's three Lead Pastors. When Alice and I moved to the neighborhood four years ago we had no idea we would be living within a stone's throw of the W83 Ministry Center. It is both a reminder to us of God's grace in our lives and his grace to the Redeemer community.

As I reflect on the opportunity to serve the West Side congregation there are several things that excite me. First, I am grateful to the incredible resource that is the West Side community. Even though we are beginning a new chapter there are hundreds of people who have served one another and the neighborhood with the love of Christ for years. I look forward to building on the foundation of this exceptional community as we seek to learn from each other how best to make the love of Jesus increasingly real in our midst. Second, the growing number of families, not just in the Redeemer community but in the UWS in general, opens up new opportunities to creatively serve that population. Third, the availability of 7-day-a-week ministry space will root us in a way that will only deepen our unity and magnify our experience of Christ in service and love to one another and the city. I want our new church home to be a place of hospitality and warmth in a city that can at times feel distant and cold.

As we embark on this new chapter together, let me leave you with this image of Jesus' birth as translated by Eugene Peterson –

"The word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood" – John 1:14

My prayer is that in and through this next chapter of Redeemer's ministry, the West Side congregation will more fully embody the love, grace, truth and justice of Jesus and that he will be glorified through our service to Him.
